In this blog post I will talk about the History of the Short Film and explain what makes a successful Short Film.
During the 19th Century all films were 'short.' However audiences were so dazed by man's new technological achievement in cinema and were not concerned with the short run time (which would average around 20 minutes.) But as the 20th Century approached, films run times became longer and longer. Consequently films with shorter running times were becoming far less frequent and were dubbed “Short Films” These would normally be inserted before a feature length film and would run before it. These shorts would often involve comedy and Comedians such as Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy would often have short films playing before a feature length film.
Nowadays short films are very popular and have entire festivals dedicated to showing off some of the best and most cutting edge short films.
